Safer Futures Symposium
Bridging Intersections in Youth Support and Domestic Violence, Sexual Violence and Women’s Wellbeing Sectors for Early Intervention
Date: Thursday, 21 March 2024
Time: 9:00am – 5:00pm AEST (Queensland Time)
Location: voco Brisbane City Centre, 85/87 N Quay, Brisbane City QLD 4000
Through undertaking the Respect-Based Training for Funded Youth Services project, we have discovered that there is an extensive range of resources on respectful relationships created for and with young people. Our sector contributes significantly to the development of these resources.
Hosted by WorkUP Queensland and True Relationships & Reproductive Health, this symposium aims to create a collaborative platform where the youth support sector and domestic violence, sexual violence, and women’s wellbeing sectors connect to address the multifaceted challenges faced by vulnerable young people navigating their relationships. The overarching theme underscores the collective commitment to influencing young people’s perspectives, breaking cycles of violence, and shaping positive outcomes for the next generation.
The full-day event will provide attendees with an opportunity to learn and work through the unique intersecting barriers that affect vulnerable young people. Attendees will have the option to participate in a range of workshops throughout the day as well as hearing from two different panels. In the first panel, we will hear from young people who will share their personal experiences of engaging with youth support services, how this has influenced them and their relationships today and their role of supporting and influencing their peers. In the afternoon, attendees will hear from a range of youth support services who will discuss their successes and learnings of engaging with young people. Additionally, attendees will meet and hear keynote speaker, youth worker and TV personality Brooke Blurton speak on her experience as an Aboriginal woman, a victim/survivor and youth worker.
Registrations are now open for the Safer Futures Symposium.
